OpenAI and a16z - »Leading the Future«?

Silicon Valley is pooling political capital for the 2026 midterms: According to the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI president Greg Brockman and Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) are leading a new Super PAC network called “Leading the Future” (LTF). The aim is to support candidates who are pro-AI and to fend off pushes for strict regulation. More than $100 million are said to have already been committed.

»Leading the Future« is modeled on the crypto precedent »Fairshake«: The network is designed to operate both nationwide and at the level of individual states – flanked by an organization that finances issue campaigns and politician scorecards. The effort is planned across the country, including California, New York, Illinois, and Ohio; candidates will be supported on a nonpartisan, issue-driven basis.

Besides Brockman/a16z, industry reports name Ron Conway, Joe Lonsdale, and Perplexity, as well as other supporters. The funds are slated for digital campaigns, district-level advertising, and policy work.

Meta is also launching its own California Super PAC (»Mobilizing Economic Transformation Across California«) to back pro-AI candidates at the state level – another sign of tech’s growing influence on politics ahead of 2026. Observers expect a tougher confrontation between innovation advocates and AI-safety proponents.
