The takeover negotiations between MFE-MediaForEurope and ProSiebenSat.1 are close to being finalized, with results expected by September 4th.
MFE-MediaForEurope, which is controlled by the Berlusconi family, has clarified its commitments in this context. The company, which is currently investing around 1.8 billion Euro in the German media group, confirmed that it would safeguard the broadcaster group’s editorial independenceduring a follow-up meeting in Berlin between Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer and MFE CEO Pier Silvio Berlusconi. Weimer later emphasized that both parties were aligned on this issue, calling it a »good starting point« for MFE’s involvement in the German media market, according to Reuters.
Beyond the pledge of editorial independence, MFE outlined further commitments. The company intends to maintain ProSiebenSat.1’s existing sites, particularly in Bavaria. It also announced plans to invest in German content, strengthening the local production landscape. In addition, MFE pledged to secure jobs – an important signal to employees in light of the group’s recent cost-cutting programs.
Critics had previously raised concerns over potential political influence, given the Berlusconi family’s traditionally close ties to politics. Observers view the latest commitments as an effort to avoid regulatory obstacles and to build public trust.
