Google plans to build an artificial intelligence data center in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The U.S. company Google plans to build its largest artificial intelligence data center in India. According to Google Cloud chief Thomas Kurian, it will be the largest of its kind outside the United States. The costs are estimated at around 15 billion Dollar over the next five years.

The data center is to be built in the port city of Visakhapatnam and will have an initial capacity of one gigawatt. The project aims to build a complete infrastructure with gigawatt-scale capacity for developing AI applications and solutions.

Insiders had already reported Google's India plans several months ago. For the company itself, India is an important growth market. Its video service YouTube has the most users in the world’s most populous country.
